Exploring Through Education

Research and education are at the heart of Spring Island. Further knowledge about the special history that has taken place here is paramount to maintaining the Island and preserving it’s cultural and natural truths. To that end, Spring Island is an ecological research site to the wider community. Universities and scientific organizations conduct research here and are graciously accommodated by the Spring Island community and its Members. As research is conducted and conclusions drawn, the community is briefed on the new findings about their Island home.

Laughter Is No Enemy to Learning

For three days each summer, Spring Island becomes Camp Spring Island for the children and grandchildren of Spring Island Members. A deep dive into the natural world of the Lowcountry is stimulating and exciting for kids ages 6-15. For the naturalist staff, it’s one of the most anticipated programs of the year. Spending several days pampered by grandparents and exploring innature is many kids’ idea of heaven on earth. From turtle trapping to arts & crafts, shark fishing tournaments to the study of metamorphosis, children of all ages will find adventure and enjoyment in Camp Spring Island.
