A Voice for Conservation & Education

Spring Island stands apart with an independent nonprofit - The Spring Island Trust - dedicated to the stewardship of its nature preserves. Charged with protecting more than 1,100 acres in perpetuity, the Trust ensures that Spring Island’s natural landscapes and cultural heritage remain untouched and thriving for generations to come. Its mission is rooted in conservation, education, and leadership, extending its impact beyond the Island into the greater Lowcountry.

Learning Through Exploration

Research and education are at the heart of the Trust’s work. Spring Island regularly welcomes universities and scientific institutions to conduct fieldwork, adding to a growing body of knowledge about the Lowcountry’s ecosystems.

These collaborations benefit the broader scientific community while engaging residents through shared findings, talks, and guided exploration. As studies progress and new insights emerge, Members are kept informed about discoveries that deepen our collective understanding of this special place called "Home."

A Summer Tradition

Every summer, the Island comes alive with the laughter and curiosity of young explorers during Camp Spring Island, a three-day nature experience designed for the grandchildren of Members.

Tailored for ages 6 to 15, campers dive into hands-on adventures like turtle trapping, shark fishing, and discovering insect metamorphosis. Evening events, such as the beloved Nature Poker Run, an island-wide scavenger hunt, bring the entire community together, blending fun, education, and family connection in a uniquely Spring Island way.
